Topic:
What’s New in Systems Management for Power Systems and IBM i

Description:
At the end of last year and the beginning of this year, IBM announced many changes in the area of Systems Management.  This included a new release of IBM Director, the IBM Systems Director Active Energy Manager and Virtualization Manager extensions, and the IBM Systems Director Navigator for i5/OS.  This session will provide an overview of what all these latest offerings can do for the IBM i (i5/OS) environment and will position them with the past and future IBM Systems Director offerings.

What can I (or i) do with IBM Director?
IBM Director is IBM’s cross platform management tool. The product has been included with orders and upgrades of i5/OS for several years.  Yet many people still consider it to be a “Windows tool” and have never explored its value in the IBM i environment.  This session will take a detailed look at many of its features and functions, how to implement them and how they can save time or resources.  This will include message monitoring, dynamic inventories, resource monitors, event action plans, product administration and more.  Because many customers have cross platform environments today, and because IBM Director is the core technology for the future of systems management, now is the time to learn more about it.

Presentor
Bob Padzieski has been with IBM for 31 years, working primarily as a developer, an architect or a development manager for Rochester software products.  These included portions of the S/38 operating system, OfficeVision/400, the IBM Advanced Job Scheduler, systems management offerings, i5/OS installation and the IBM System Director family.  He also spent two years at the Hursley, UK lab managing the development of image functions for the GDDM product.  For the past two years, Bob has been a member of the Advanced Technical Support team providing pre-sales technical support in the areas of systems management, virtualization and “Project Green”.   Bob’s activities outside of work include bicycling, home repair and Toastmasters.
