"SQL Services for Every Day" by Birgitta Hauser
With the last releases and technology refreshes IBM provided a bunch of new IBM i and Db2 Services. A lot of these Services provide functionalities that are not directly available in RPG or can only be implemented in RPG by calling complex System APIs and/or by using pointer handling for accessing the data. However, IBM provides new SQL services mostly located in the SYSTOOLS schema that can write data into the IFS, delete old spool files and even transform a spool file into a PDF document. With other services the SQL queries can be executed and the result saved as Excel-Sheets or *.csv files. Even eMails can be easily sent with the aid of an IBM i service. And the best, we can put them all together. This session will show a sub-set of SQL and IBM Services which can easily be embedded in any programming language that supports SQL and, in this way, can make life much easier.
About the Presenter:
Birgitta Hauser:
has been working on IBM i and its predecessors since 1992. A graduate in business administration, she began programming on AS/400 that same year. She has worked as a traditional RPG programmer, as well as a database and software engineer, focusing on modernizing IBM i applications and databases.
Currently working as an independent consultant, she provides consulting services, modernization of applications on IBM i, and more specifically database modernization on DB2 for i. She also offers individual IBM i training to her clients.
She also works in the field of training, providing instruction for RPG and SQL developers.
Since 2002, she has been a frequent speaker at COMMON user groups and other IBM i and Power conferences in Germany, other European countries, the United States, and Canada.
In addition, she is co-author of two IBM Redbooks and several articles on RPG and SQL for ITP Verlag (German publisher), IT Jungle Guru and IBM DeveloperWorks.
In 2015, she received the John Earl Speaker Scholarship Award. In 2018, she received the Al Barsa Memorial Scholarship Award.
Birgitta is also an IBM Champion since 2020.
